FAQ’s About our Counseling programs
How does counseling work at Cancer Family Care (CFC)?
CFC therapists use a variety of counseling techniques to help cancer patients and their loved ones cope with the stressors that cancer often brings. Sessions take place in our offices or via telehealth.
Where are your offices located?
Red Bank/Madisonville (Main office), West Chester, Hamilton, Eastgate, Western Ridge, Mt. Auburn, and Edgewood KY,
How would counseling work for my child?
Our children/teen programs are completely free charge and take place at either the child/teen’s school or in one of our offices. If sessions are at school, our therapists work with school personnel to ensure that there is a quiet and private place to meet and maintain communication with parent/guardian.
How much will this cost?
Cancer Family Care is a non-profit counseling agency whose mission is to support cancer patients and their loved ones regardless of ability to pay for services. We do accept Medicare and private insurance, in addition to several local EAP benefits. Co-pays are based on a sliding fee scale, determined by the client and can be changed at any time.
*Note – Our counseling services for children/teens are always free of charge.
What if I can’t pay?
No problem! No one is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. Our insurance and client payments account for less than 10% of our annual revenue.
How long does counseling last?
Adult counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes in length. The first session may be a bit longer. Children/Youth sessions are typically 30-45 minutes. Everyone’s story at CFC is different. Some people utilize 2-3 sessions and others continue with CFC for several months. Many cancer survivors utilize services on an “as needed” basis.
Is grief counseling available?
Yes. We offer grief counseling when a loved one is lost to cancer.
Who provides the counseling?
Our therapists are all Master’s level, licensed counselors or social workers who specialize in working with cancer patients and their loved ones to better understand the emotional toll that cancer can take. Our therapists are supervised by a licensed Clinical Director.
Can Cancer Family Care prescribe medication?
No, but we can help with referrals to other specialists who can prescribe medication.
